Shortly after performing as his glam-rock alter ego Ziggy Stardust, legendary musician David Bowie took on another spaceman persona. Bowie played a humanoid alien who comes to Earth seeking a way to save his people from their dying planet in his feature starring debut, the 1976 science-fiction movie "The Man Who Fell to Earth."

The film, which was helmed by acclaimed British director Nicolas Roeg, of "Don't Look Now" fame, has since reached cult status. And as it celebrates its 40th anniversary this year, UK distributors StudioCanal and Park Circus are gearing up to debut a newly restored 4K digital version in theaters on September 9 and on Blu-Ray/DVD on October 24.

Based on author Walter Tevis' 1963 novel of the same name, "The Man Who Fell to Earth" also starred "American Graffiti" actress Candy Clark and actor Rip Torn, who is now best known for "The Larry Sanders Show" and from the "MIB" films.

No word yet if the 4K version will make its way to the States. But in the meantime, fans can enjoy a newly-released international trailer, above.
