Check out the trailer for "When Two Worlds Collide," the Sundance-winning documentary that takes an unflinching look at the escalating political conflict between the Peruvian government and Peruvian activists trying to protect the Amazon rainforest from deforestation. What started as a non-violent protest movement led by the indigenous people of Peru quickly spirals into an aggressive government-ordered eradication by local police forces.

Told with shocking uncensored footage, first-time documentary filmmakers Heidi Brandenburg and Mathew Orzel shed light on a political crusade that many people outside of Peru and its neighboring countries may not know about or even were aware of it.

Winner of the Special Jury Prize at this year's Sundance Film Festival, "When Two Worlds Collide" is set to open in New York on August 17 and in Los Angeles on September 16.

synopsis:
In this tense and immersive tour de force, audiences are taken directly into the line of fire between powerful, opposing Peruvian leaders who will stop at nothing to keep their respective goals intact. On the one side is President Alan Garcia, who, eager to enter the world stage, begins aggressively extracting oil, minerals, and gas from untouched indigenous Amazonian land. He is quickly met with fierce opposition from indigenous leader Alberto Pizango, whose impassioned speeches against Garcia’s destructive actions prove a powerful rallying cry to throngs of his supporters. When Garcia continues to ignore their pleas, a tense war of words erupts into deadly violence.
