Tig Notaro teams up with fellow stand-up comic Louis C.K. to executive produced the new Amazon original series "One Mississippi," which is loosely based on Notaro's life as a grief-stricken daughter returning to her hometown to deal with the unexpected death of her mother.
The ten-episode dark comedy stars Notaro as a fictionalized version of herself, a lesbian comic who puts her life on hold to fly back home to Mississippi when her mother is suddenly hospitalized and put on life support. When she dies, Tig is forced to plan the funeral with her emotionally distant and socially awkward stepfather (played by character actor John Rothman).
Acclaimed director Nicole Holofcener (Enough Said) helms the pilot episode, which has been written by both Notaro and Oscar-winner Diablo Cody (Juno). The cast also includes comic actress Casey Wilson (SNL, Happy Endings) and Noah Harpster (Transparent).
"One Mississippi" will be premiering Friday, September 9 only on Amazon.
