Hugh Laurie is back with a new series. And he's playing a very different type of doctor for a very different type of network.

Check out the first teaser trailer for "Chance," Hulu's new suspense thriller that sees Laurie as Eldon Chance, a forensic neuropsychiatrist who, after becoming emotionally involved with one of his mentally ill patients, takes questionable steps to get rid of her abusive ex-husband, who happens to be a San Francisco detective.

Based on the novel by best-selling author Kem Nunn, the ten-episode drama also stars Gretchen Mol (Boardwalk Empire), Ethan Suplee (My Name Is Earl), and Paul Adelstein (Private Practice).

Lenny Abrahamson, the Oscar-nominated director of the critically acclaimed drama "Room," has come on board as one of the executive producers on the series, and is directing several episodes, including the opener.

Already greenlit for two seasons, "Chance" is slated to premiere on Wednesday, October 19, only on Hulu.

synopsis:
Based on the acclaimed novel by Kem Nunn, Chance is a provocative, psychological thriller that focuses on Eldon Chance (Hugh Laurie), a San Francisco-based forensic neuropsychiatrist who reluctantly gets sucked into a violent and dangerous world of mistaken identity, police corruption and mental illness. After an ill-advised decision regarding an alluring patient who may or may not be struggling with a multiple personality disorder, Chance finds himself in the crosshairs of her abusive spouse, who also happens to be a ruthless police detective. In over his head, Chance's descent into the city's wayward underbelly, all while navigating the waters of a contentious divorce and tribulations of his teenage daughter, soon spirals into an ever deepening exploration of one of mankind's final frontiers -- the shadowy, undiscovered country of the human mind.
