You may remember him as the young kid actor in Spike Jonze's 2009 fantasy drama "Where the Wild Things Are," but 19-year-old Max Records is a bit older now. And he's surprisingly creepy in the new trailer for the offbeat horror thriller "I Am Not a Serial Killer."

Records stars as John Wayne Cleaver, a teenage misfit who works at a mortuary and has an unhealthy obsession with serial killers. His entire community thinks he's a dangerous weirdo, but John has sworn to live by a set of behavioral rules, which have been constructed to make him appear mentally sound. But those rules are put to the test when a string of unsolved murders turn out to be the act of a new serial killer, and John can't help but investigate the crimes himself.

Based on Dan Wells' cult horror novel of the same name, the film also stars Back to the Future's Christopher Lloyd and Breaking Bad's Laura Fraser.

Indie horror director Billy O'Brien (The Hybrid, Isolation) helms the movie, which premiered to solid reviews at this year's SXSW Film Festival. It's currently set to hit theaters and VOD August 26.

Keeping his homicidal tendencies and morbid obsessions with death and murder in check is a constant struggle that only gets harder when a real serial killer begins terrorizing his sleepy Midwestern town. Now, in order to track down a psychopath and protect those around him, John must unleash his darkest inner demons. Based on the cult novel by Dan Wells, this twisted, genre-bending thriller co-stars Christopher Lloyd and Breaking Bad's Laura Fraser.
