World-renowned South Korean filmmaker Park Chan-wook, of "Oldboy," "Thirst," and "Stoker" fame, is back with a new sexually-charged thriller about a young orphaned Korean woman who, after being raised by a veteran con-artist, is coerced into posing as a personal servant to a wealthy Japanese heiress as part of a complicated con-game that involves seduction, exploitation, and fetishism.

Starring KIM Min-hee (No Tears for the Dead), HA Jung-woo (The Chaser), CHO Jin-woong (The Admiral), and newcomer KIM Tae-ri, "The Handmaiden" is a loose adaptation of British author Sarah Waters' crime novel "Fingersmith," in which Chan-wook stylishly replaced the book's Victorian England setting with that of Japanese-occupied Korea, circa the early 1930s.

After receiving rave reviews at this year's Cannes Film Festival, "The Handmaiden" will hit theaters October 14th. Watch the film's newly released U.S. trailer, above.

synopsis:
From PARK Chan-wook, the celebrated director of OLDBOY, LADY VENGEANCE and STOKER, comes a ravishing new crime drama. PARK presents a gripping and sensual tale of two women - a young Japanese Lady living on a secluded estate, and a Korean woman who is hired to serve as her new handmaiden, but is secretly plotting with a conman to defraud her of a large inheritance. Inspired by the novel Fingersmith by British author Sarah Waters, THE HANDMAIDEN borrows the most dynamic elements of its source material and combines it with PARK Chan-wook’s singular vision to create an unforgettable viewing experience.
