Director Adam Wingard and screenwriter Simon Barrett, the filmmaking team behind the cult home-invasion thriller "You're Next" and the cult mystery thriller "The Guest," have just made a rather surprising announcement at this year's Comic-Con: Their yet-to-be-released horror movie, which was formerly known as "The Woods," is, in fact, the latest entry in "The Blair Witch Project" franchise.

Now going by the title "Blair Witch," the film takes place 15 years after the events of the original 1999 found-footage movie and centers on Heather's younger brother, James (played by James Allen McCune, from "Shameless" and "The Walking Dead"), who discovers a lost videotape on the internet that was supposedly found near the infamous Black Hills woods (a.k.a. the birthplace of the Blair Witch).

With the help of his friends (Callie Hernandez, Valorie Curry, Corbin Reid, Brandon Scott, and Wes Robinson), James goes to the woods in an attempt to find out the truth about his missing sister. Of course, what he finds is something else entirely.

"Blair Witch," which is the third chapter in the film series, will be hitting theaters on September 16th. Watch the newly-released trailer that recently premiered at Comic-Con, above.

synopsis:
A group of college students venture into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mysteries surrounding the disappearance of James' sister who many believe is connected to the legend of the Blair Witch. At first the group is hopeful, especially when a pair of locals offer to act as guides through the dark and winding woods, but as the endless night wears on, the group is visited by a menacing presence. Slowly, they begin to realize the legend is all too real and more sinister than they could have imagined.
