A new trailer has been released for "Snowden," Oliver Stone's politically-charged espionage thriller based on the life of controversial NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt leads an all-star cast, playing the 29-year-old computer analyst and intelligence contractor who leaked classified NSA files that exposed the government's shady global surveillance programs in 2013. Since then, Snowden has been a polarizing figure who has evaded U.S. prosecution by obtaining temporary asylum in Russia.
Also starring Shailene Woodley as Snowden's girlfriend and Tom Wilkinson, Zachary Quinto and Melissa Leo as the journalists who first spoke to Snowden about his findings, the film will trace his entire government/military career from his early days as an enlisted Army Reservist to his recent cloak-and-dagger exploits.
Co-starring Rhys Ifans, Nicolas Cage, Ben Schnetzer, and Timothy Olyphant, "Snowden" will open in theaters September 16.
