New York is in deep trouble. And the only person who can help is a boy with supernatural powers.

Check out the new U.S. trailer for the quirky animated adventure movie "Phantom Boy," which hails from French filmmakers Jean-Loup Felicioli and Alain Gagnol, the team behind the Oscar-nominated "A Cat in Paris."

Inspired by comic strips of the '40s and '50s, the film centers on an 11-year-old boy who is hospitalized but discovers he can leave his physical body and float around the city as a ghostly spirit. The power becomes especially useful when he goes up against a nefarious mobster who wants to rule New York City as its new king.

Featuring the voices of Fred Armisen, Vincent D'onofrio, and Jared Padalecki, "Phantom Boy" is currently playing in New York, and will open in Los Angeles this Friday; expanding to other cities in the coming weeks.

synopsis:
GKIDS presents PHANTOM BOY, the stylish new noir caper from the Academy Award-nominated directors of A CAT IN PARIS, set in the shadowy alleyways of New York.

Leo has a secret. A mysterious illness has transformed him into a phantom boy, able to leave the confines of his body and explore the city as a ghostly apparition. While in the hospital, he befriends Alex, a New York City cop injured while attempting to capture a nefarious gangster who has taken control of the city's power supply, throwing the metropolis into chaos. Now they must form an extraordinary duo, using Leo's phantom powers and Alex's detective work to foil the plot and save New York from destruction. Phantom Boy continues Gagnol and Felicioli’s fascination with animated film noir, in a heart-thumping adventure that pushes their trademark visual style to literal new heights, as Leo swoops and soars above the greatest skyline in the world.
