With a little more than a week to go before its official theatrical release in its home country of Japan, it appears a new Japanese trailer for the eagerly-awaited "Godzilla" reboot has stomped and trampled its way online. So, let the monster rampage begin.
The first non-Hollywood "Godzilla" movie in 12 years, "Godzilla Resurgence" revives the long-running Kaiju franchise with a tip of the hat to the classic Toho monster films. Gone are those over-saturated and heavily computer-generated effects. Replaced instead with more a traditional man-in-a-monster-suit aesthetic.
Basically a retelling of an archetypal "Godzilla" tale (a giant reptile monster emerges without warning, forcing an immediate response from the local military army), "Godzilla Resurgence" hails from the directing super-group of animator and anime filmmaker Hideaki Anno (Neon Genesis Evangelion) and sci-fi, action director Shinji Higuchi (Attack on Titan: Part 1 and 2).
Starring Jun Kunimura, Satomi Ishihara, Hiroki Hasegawa, Takahiro Miura, and Shinya Tsukamoto, "Godzilla Resurgence" doesn't have an official U.S. release as of yet, but will premiere in Japan on July 29.
