"Rurouni Kenshin: Origins" is the first installment in a three-part film adaptation of a popular Japanese manga series, which is known in the United States as "Samurai X." The story features a master swordsman who goes into hiding when he vows to never kill again. However, the legendary assassin finds himself confronting his violent past after getting involved with a samurai school in Tokyo.

All three films, which have already been released in Japan, will be coming to the States this year, courtesy of US distributor Funimation Films.

Directed by Keishi Ohtomo and starring Japanese actor Takeru Satoh as the titular assassin, "Rurouni Kenshin: Origins" will be released in a limited theatrical engagement on August 8, 9, and 10 -- with "Rurouni Kenshin: Part II" opening in September and "Rurouni Kenshin: Part III" in October.
