What if back in the early 1980s Steven Spielberg and John Carpenter had done a horror series together? Now that would have really been something. Well, unless someone invents a time-machine, this might be the next best thing!

Just ahead of its Friday release, Netflix has unveiled the first 8 minutes of their new 1983-set mystery-horror series "Stranger Things," which is written, directed, and created by "Wayward Pines" writers/producers Matt and Ross Duffer.

The filmmaking brothers shamelessly display their love for everything '80s (that includes a clear devotion for Spielberg, Carpenter, and Dungeons & Dragons) in this extended film clip, which reveals the show's starting point: "The Vanishing of Will Byers."

Starring Winona Ryder and David Harbour who are sharing the screen with a cast of mostly young actors, "Stranger Things: Season 1" premieres this Friday, July 15.

synopsis:
A love letter to the supernatural classics of the 80's, Stranger Things is the story of a young boy who vanishes into thin air. As friends, family and local police search for answers, they are drawn into an extraordinary mystery involving top-secret government experiments, terrifying supernatural forces and one very strange little girl.
