Remember how former SNL cast member Molly Shannon used to make you laugh until you cried. Well, prepare to laugh again but cry a lot more at Shannon's incredibly touching and career-redefining performance as a cancer-stricken mother in the bittersweet dramedy "Other People."

The trailer for the Sundance hit has been released online, and it sees actor Jesse Plemons (Breaking Bad, TV's Fargo) as David, an openly gay comedy writer in New York who moves back to Sacramento to look after his terminally ill mother (Shannon).

Semi-based on the life of former SNL and "Broad City" writer Chris Kelly, who makes his feature writing and directing debut with "Other People."

In addition to Shannon and Plemons, the cast includes Bradley Whitford, June Squibb, Paul Dooley, John Early, Madisen Beaty, Maude Apatow, and J.J. Totah, with appearances by Zach Woods, Paula Pell, Kerri Kenney, and Retta.

"Other People" will screen next week at OUTFEST before arriving in theaters on September 9th.

synopsis:
A struggling comedy writer, fresh from breaking up with his boyfriend, moves to Sacramento to help his sick mother. Living with his conservative father and younger sisters, David feels like a stranger in his childhood home. As his mother worsens, he tries to convince everyone (including himself) he's "doing okay."
