Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) looks like "crap" as he tries to make "some noise" in a couple of newly-released commercials for "Star Trek Beyond," the latest chapter in the rebooted franchise.

The film, which sees the crew of the Starship Enterprise on a rescue mission that unexpectedly turns into a fight for their lives, will feature an unrecognizable Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation, Pacific Rim) as a malicious alien, named Krall, who launches a full-scale attack on Captain Kirk and his officers.

Action director Justin Lin, who had spent the past several years directing four "Fast and Furious" sequels, helms "Star Trek Beyond" from a script written by Doug Jung (Confidence) and "Star Trek" actor Simon Pegg, who, according to the new clips, brought a bit of humor to the space-set story.

"Star Trek Beyond" opens on July 22.

synopsis:
"Star Trek Beyond," the highly anticipated next installment in the globally popular Star Trek franchise, created by Gene Roddenberry and reintroduced by J.J. Abrams in 2009, returns with director Justin Lin ("The Fast and the Furious" franchise) at the helm of this epic voyage of the U.S.S. Enterprise and her intrepid crew. In "Beyond," the Enterprise crew explores the furthest reaches of uncharted space, where they encounter a mysterious new enemy who puts them and everything the Federation stands for to the test.
