Martin Sheen is a man of the cloth who's trying to bring healing to a small Spanish coastal town in the trailer for "The Vessel."

Marking the feature debut of Cuban-American writer-director Julio Quintana, the drama takes place in a Latin American village where the locals are still reeling from the aftermath of a massive tidal wave that occurred many years ago, but had destroyed the town's elementary school, killing all the children who were inside.

Sheen plays Father Douglas, a Catholic priest who, like his parishioners, has been deeply affected by the tragedy. And with the community becoming increasingly desperate for any kind of hope or meaning, Father Douglas turns to Leo (played by newcomer Lucas Quintana), a young man who was the only survivor of the school. However, Leo isn't keen on becoming his "messenger."

Working together with Sheen for the first time since "Badlands," celebrated filmmaker Terrence Malick is serving as an executive producer on the upcoming film. Malick's longtime producing partner Sarah Green is also an executive producer.

Co-starring Jacqueline Duprey and Aris Mejias, "The Vessel" is set to open in theaters on September 16th, and will be released in both Spanish and English.
