Actor Brady Corbet, who you may have seen in such arthouse films as "Simon Killer," "Martha Marcy May Marlene," and "Funny Games," makes a highly ambitious foray into directing with "The Childhood of a Leader," an atmospheric gothic horror fable that (according to its newly-released trailer) made quite an impression on Oscar-winning director Jonathan Demme, who calls it, "a mind-blowing directorial debut."

Boasting an impressive international cast that includes French-Argentine actress Berenice Bejo (The Artist), Irish actor Liam Cunningham (Game of Thrones), and French actress Stacy Martin (Nymphomaniac) with an appearance by "Twilight" star Robert Pattinson, the period film centers on a young spoiled boy (played by newcomer Tom Sweet) who manipulatively controls everyone around him, including his aristocratic parents.

Described as a parable about the post-WWI rise of Fascism in Europe, the movie premiered at the 2015 Venice Film Festival, where it nabbed a Best Director award for Corbet.

Featuring an original music score by orchestral-pop musician Scott Walker, "The Childhood of a Leader" will be hitting theaters and VOD on July 22nd.

synopsis:
A child’s angelic face conceals a budding sociopath in the audacious, senses-shattering feature debut from actor Brady Corbet. A powerhouse international cast led by Robert Pattinson and Berenice Bejo (The Artist) headlines this dark domestic nightmare. Set amidst the turmoil of World War I and its aftermath, it follows the young son of an American diplomat living in France as he learns to manipulate the adults around him -- a monstrous coming of age that ominously parallels the rising tide of Fascism in Europe. A stylistically fearless tour-de-force, The Childhood of a Leader reaches fever-pitch delirium thanks to ravishing cinematography and a thunderous score by legendary, boundary-pushing musician Scott Walker.
