Filmmaker Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge!, The Great Gatsby) is traveling back in time for his first small-screen drama: Netflix's new hip-hop series "The Get Down," about the lives of several South Bronx teenagers living through the cultural and musical explosion of 1977.
Featuring a cast of mostly young actors, including Shameik Moore (Dope), Justice Smith (Paper Towns) and Skylan Brooks (The Inevitable Defeat of Mister & Pete), the much-awaited 13-part series, in which Luhrmann is directing several episodes, will be premiering this summer, on Friday, August 12.
