A newly-hired security guard tries to protect a wealthy businessman's wife and child from a gang of home-invading assailants. French writer-director Alice Winocour's bodyguard thriller "Disorder" sure reads a lot like a paint-by-numbers action movie. But judging by a new U.S. trailer (watch it above), it's nowhere near to a conventional home-invasion caper.

For starters, the French-language film casts Belgian actor Matthias Schoenaerts (Far from the Madding Crowd) as Vincent, an ex-special forces soldier suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. When hired as the personal bodyguard for the wife (played by Inglourious Basterds' Diane Kruger) of a well-to-do magnate, Vincent is soon drawn into a web of corruption, seduction, and affliction as he fends off a gang of home invaders during the night of an extravagant dinner party.

Known internationally as "Maryland," the film has garnered mostly positive reviews, playing at some of the top film festivals of last year. "Disorder" will make its way to the States this summer, hitting theaters and VOD on August 12th.

synopsis:
What happens when the man hired to protect you may be the real threat? Matthias Schoenaerts (Rust and Bone) stars as Vincent, a troubled Afghanistan veteran who, after being discharged from the army, becomes bodyguard to the wife (Diane Kruger) and young son of a wealthy Lebanese businessman at their luxurious villa on the French Riviera. But trapped in a perpetual mental warzone, the unstable Vincent must determine which dangers to the family are real and which are the product of his PTSD-fueled paranoia if he is going to keep them safe. Director Alice Winocour (Augustine) masterfully keeps the tension simmering in this pulse-pounding psychological thriller.
