Disney has brushed the dust off an old movie property and decided to give it a shiny new makeover. The result is this modern-day remake of the 1977 live-action/animated hybrid film "Pete's Dragon" about a boy and his best friend, who happens to be a flying green dragon.

The studio has released a new full-length trailer for the upcoming 3D action-adventure remake, which is decidedly less campy and seemingly more grounded with a sense of childlike wonder.

Starring Jurassic World's Bryce Dallas Howard and screen legend Robert Redford, "Pete's Dragon" starts when a forest ranger (Howard) discovers a feral boy, named Pete (Boardwalk Empire's Oakes Fegley), has been living in the woods for six years. After placing the boy under her care, she and her family quickly learn about Pete's best friend, Elliott. Of course, Elliott is not a person, but rather a big, friendly giant dragon. But once the word gets out that a dragon is secretly living in the forest, scared locals devise a plan to hunt the flying monster and destroy it for good.

Karl Urban, Wes Bentley, and Oona Laurence co-star.

Set to open in theaters on August 12th, "Pete's Dragon" is co-written and directed by acclaimed filmmaker David Lowery (Ain't Them Bodies Saints), who has just been hired by Disney again to work on a live-action adaptation of the 1953 animated classic "Peter Pan."

synopsis:
For years, old wood carver Mr. Meacham (Robert Redford) has delighted local children with his tales of the fierce dragon that resides deep in the woods of the Pacific Northwest. To his daughter, Grace (Bryce Dallas Howard), who works as a forest ranger, these stories are little more than tall tales...until she meets Pete (Oakes Fegley). Pete is a mysterious 10-year-old with no family and no home who claims to live in the woods with a giant, green dragon named Elliott. And from Pete's descriptions, Elliott seems remarkably similar to the dragon from Mr. Meacham’s stories. With the help of Natalie (Oona Laurence), an 11-year-old girl whose father Jack (Wes Bentley) owns the local lumber mill, Grace sets out to determine where Pete came from, where he belongs, and the truth about this dragon.
