Netflix has released the trailer for the second season of the historical action-adventure series "Marco Polo," which chronicles the life of the 13th-century Italian explorer during his early years with Mongol Emperor Kublai Khan, the grandson of legendary conqueror Genghis Khan (played with controlled ferocity by British scene-stealer Benedict Wong).

Italian actor Lorenzo Richelmy returns, reprising the title role of Marco Polo, while Martial arts superstar Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) has joined the cast of the new season as a mysterious master sword fighter. Chinese-British actor Tom Wu is also back as blind monk warrior 'Hundred Eyes,' who received his own 30-minute origin-story standalone special back in December.

Created by screenwriter John Fusco (Young Guns, Hidalgo), and branded as one of the most expensive original series in Netflix's catalog, the ten-part series continues Kublai Khan's ego-driven goal to expand his Mongolian empire, butting heads with a number of warring clans -- even some from his own allegiance.

"Marco Polo: Season 2" is due out Friday, July 1st.

In a world replete with greed, betrayal, sexual intrigue and rivalry, Marco Polo is based on the famed explorer's adventures in Kublai Khan's court in 13th Century China, and the dark and tempestuous battle for the expanding Mongol empire.
