Danish filmmaker and "Drive" director Nicolas Winding Refn is once again delving into the dark underbelly of Los Angeles. This time, however, he's taking young innocent "Maleficent" actress Elle Fanning with him.
In Refn's new stylish horror thriller "The Neon Demon," Fanning plays a small-town girl who has just moved to the City of Angels to see if she can make it in the ultra-competitive world of high-fashion modeling. Luckily, she has the kind of beauty that L.A. women would kill for -- "kill," of course, being the operative word here.
But judging by a new international trailer (watch it above), Fanning's character, Jesse, isn't some helpless sap. She is very much a "dangerous" woman in her own special way.
Co-starring Hunger Games' Jena Malone, Mad Max: Fury Road's Abbey Lee, and Dark Shadows' Bella Heathcote -- with appearances by Christina Hendricks, Alessandro Nivola and Keanu Reeves, "The Neon Demon" will be making its world premiere next week at the Cannes Film Festival.
Acquired by Amazon Studios, it was recently announced that the streaming company has teamed up with Broad Green Pictures to distribute the film in theaters on June 24th; with a VOD release to follow at a later date.
