In the new documentary "As I AM: The Life and Times of DJ AM," prolific music video director Kevin Kerslake paints a touching portrait of Adam "DJ AM" Goldstein, one of the leading pioneers of the recent EDM movement who famously survived an airplane crash with drummer Travis Barker but later tragically died of a drug overdose in 2009 at age 36.

The film, which premiered to strong reviews at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival, also details the more troubling aspects of Goldstein's life, such as his well-publicized bouts with substance abuse and his lesser-known suicide attempt at an early age. Regarded as one of the first celebrity DJ rock-stars, Goldstein helped usher in a new generation of nightclub remixers who eventually became mainstream media personalities.

Featuring interviews with Mark Ronson, Steve Aoki, Paul Oakenfold, DJ Jazzy Jeff, and Jon Favreau, "As I AM" will be opening theatrically in New York on May 27th and in Los Angeles on June 3rd, with other cities to follow. Watch the film's trailer, above.

synopsis:
AS I AM: THE LIFE AND TIMES OF DJ AM covers the late, great mash-up pioneer's entire life from seed to sorrow: his meteoric rise to become the first million dollar DJ in the United States, and his incredibly storied personal life, as well, which includes a long-running struggle with addiction, titanic efforts to help others in recovery, tabloid romances with assorted models and actresses, endorsement deals with Nike, Pepsi, T-Mobile and Activision, and surviving, along with Blink 182 drummer Travis Barker, a fiery plane crash a little less than a year before his controversial and untimely death in 2009.
