Unresolved issues between a young woman (Amanda Seyfried) and her famous dad (Russell Crowe) appear to have a lasting and emotionally scarring effect in the new trailer for "Fathers and Daughters."

Spanning several decades, this heart-tugging, flashback-laden melodrama chronicles the complicated history and relationship between a Pulitzer-winning novelist (Crowe) and his psychologically wounded daughter (Seyfried) who, at a young age, was sent to live with relatives after a sudden illness left her father mentally incapacitated. Now as an adult, she makes an effort to reconcile her conflicting feelings about her well-known dad when she falls in love with an aspiring novelist (played by Breaking Bad's Aaron Paul).

In addition to Seyfried, Crowe, and Paul, the film also stars Jane Fonda, Octavia Spencer, Diane Kruger, Bruce Greenwood, Janet McTeer, Kylie Rogers and Quvenzhane Wallis.

The film is directed by Italian helmer Gabriele Muccino, of "The Pursuit of Happyness" and "Seven Pounds" fame, and will be released exclusively on DIRECTV this week, starting May 5th, before hitting theaters on July 8th.
