Sarah Hagan is probably best known for playing nerdy religious schoolgirl, Millie, on the short-lived cult comedy series "Freaks and Geeks." Now Hagan is flexing an entirely new acting muscle in "Sun Choke," a psychological horror thriller that also stars veteran horror actress Barbara Crampton (Re-Animator, From Beyond, You're Next).
The film, written and directed by indie filmmaker Ben Cresciman (Negative Space), revolves around the antagonistic relationship between a highly medicated, housebound woman, Janie (Hagan), and her abusive caretaker, Irma (Crampton). When Jaine begins to refuse her treatment, Irma resorts to extreme and questionable measures, raising the question: Who's the crazy one here?
Spending most of 2015 on the festival circuit where it was met with mostly positive reviews, "Sun Choke" is now gearing up for a theatrical and VOD release in the summer, beginning August 5th. In the meantime, you can check out the film's new theatrical trailer, above.
synopsis:
Janie's just trying to get well. As she recovers from a violent psychotic break, she's subjected each day to a bizarre holistic health and wellness regimen designed, and enforced, by her lifelong nanny and caretaker. She begins to veer off the road to recovery when she develops an obsession with a young woman to whom she feels an inexplicable yet profound connection. The obsession turns increasingly invasive, and wedges all three women into an ever-tightening, and progressively terrifying struggle for control. Will Janie pull herself back from the precipice of insanity? Or go over head-first, taking anyone nearby down with her?
