Detroit never looked so dementedly gritty as it does in this trailer for "Cash Only," an indie crime thriller that appears to owe a debt to gritty street-crime films like Nicolas Winding Refn's "Pusher."

Starring Detroit-born actor Nickola Shreli (Low Winter Sun), who also penned the screenplay, the film follows a low-life Detroit schemer who finds himself in hot water when Albanian gangsters give him 24 hours to return the money he'd stolen from them. And as an incentive, they kidnap his young daughter, holding her hostage in a warehouse somewhere.

Directed by indie filmmaker Malik Bader (Street Thief), "Cash Only" had earned strong notices at the 2015 Fantasia International Film Festival. It's now slated to hit theaters and VOD on May 13th.

synopsis:
Elvis Martini is in deep shit. His dilapidated Detroit apartment building is about to be foreclosed on by the bank; most of his tenants are behind on rent; he's in big debt to bookies in the Albanian underground, and his daughter's school. He finds some ill-gotten cash in an evicted tenant's apartment and it briefly keeps the wolves at bay, but it brings out a bigger wolf -- one that wants his stolen money back. When his daughter is kidnapped by the mysterious menace he's accidentally messed with, Elvis has 24 hours to come up with $25K -- cash only.
