Homeschooling your children can be a difficult task. Homeschooling your children while forcing them to live like hermits in the wilderness -- well, that's an entirely different story.

Playing a nonconformist dad who has rejected the conventional notions of raising children, Viggo Mortensen faces such a family obligation in the trailer for his new film "Captain Fantastic," which asks, does father really know best; or does father need his head examined?

The film, which premiered at Sundance this year, follows Mortensen's eccentric survivalist character as he tries to keep his family together and their alternative lifestyle intact when his wife tragically passes away. Although Mortensen's six children have grown accustomed to living off the land and off the grid, the kids' lives are physically and emotionally turned upside down when they venture into the big city for the first time to attend their mother's funeral. And soon Mortensen finds himself getting embroiled in a custody battle with his wife's unsympathetic father.

Also starring Frank Langella, George MacKay, Kathryn Hahn, Steve Zahn, and Ann Dowd, "Captain Fantastic" is written and directed by actor Matt Ross, who is probably best known for playing polygamist leader Alby Grant in the HBO series "Big Love," or more recently as Hooli CEO Gavin Belson in the HBO hit comedy "Silicon Valley."

"Captain Fantastic" is set to open theatrically on July 8th.

synopsis:
Deep in the forests of the Pacific Northwest, isolated from society, a devoted father (Viggo Mortensen) dedicates his life to transforming his six young children into extraordinary adults. But when a tragedy strikes the family, they are forced to leave this self-created paradise and begin a journey into the outside world that challenges his idea of what it means to be a parent and brings into question everything he's taught them.
