The life of controversial NSA whistleblower Edward Snowden has gotten the Oliver Stone treatment, and here's the first look at the finish result. Check out the newly-released full-length trailer for "Snowden," Stone's latest provocative drama that stars a throaty-voiced Joseph Gordon-Levitt as the infamous 29-year-old computer analyst who became the most wanted man in the world when he leaked classified files from the NSA, which exposed their aggressive global surveillance operations.

In addition to Gordon-Levitt, the film features an impressive supporting cast that includes Shailene Woodley as Snowden's girlfriend; Rhys Ifans, Nicolas Cage, and Timothy Olyphant as Snowden's superiors.

Meanwhile, Tom Wilkinson and Zachary Quinto are playing the Guardian journalists whom Snowden had contacted about his findings. Melissa Leo also appears in the movie as Laura Poitras, the documentary filmmaker who also communicated with Snowden at an early stage. She would eventually end up winning an Academy Award for her Snowden-interview doc. "Citizenfour."

Set to open in theaters on September 16th, "Snowden" was written by Stone and Kieran Fitzgerald (The Homesman), who drew from two separate source materials: Luke Harding's investigative book "The Snowden Files" and Anatoly Kucherena's semi-fictional book "Time of the Octopus."

synopsis:
Academy Award-winning director Oliver Stone, who brought Platoon, Born on the Fourth of July, Wall Street and JFK to the big screen, tackles the most important and fascinating true story of the 21st century. Snowden, the politically-charged, pulse-pounding thriller starring Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Shailene Woodley, reveals the incredible untold personal story of Edward Snowden, the polarizing figure who exposed shocking illegal surveillance activities by the NSA and became one of the most wanted men in the world. He is considered a hero by some, and a traitor by others. No matter which you believe, the epic story of why he did it, who he left behind, and how he pulled it off makes for one of the most compelling films of the year.
