Cult comedienne Maria Bamford plays a heightened version of herself in the new trailer for "Lady Dynamite," Netflix's latest original comedy series that's loosely inspired by Bamford's own life as a struggling comic actress who is coping with bipolar disorder while trying to make it in Los Angeles.

The 12-episode, half-hour series -- which features a supporting cast that includes Sarah Silverman, Ana Gasteyer, Lennon Parham, Bridget Everett, Mary Kay Place, Fred Melamed, Ed Begley Jr., Brandon Routh, Jason Mantzoukas, and Andrew Daly -- is written and executive produced by "Arrested Development" creator Mitchell Hurwitz and Pam Brady, the Emmy-winning writer of "South Park."

"Lady Dynamite" is set to premiere next month, Friday, May 20th, only on Netflix.

synopsis:
This is the true story of a woman who loses -- and then finds -- her shit. Lady Dynamite is a 12-episode half-hour comedy from Mitch Hurwitz (Arrested Development) and Pam Brady (South Park) starring comedian-actress Maria Bamford. Based on what she has accepted to be "her life," the semi-autobiographical, semi-surreal series is a truthful look at the highs and lows of Bamford's life -- as an actor on the rise, during her hospitalization for bipolar disorder, and through her present life in LA, where she's reached a middle ground and found love.
