Get ready to root for the bad guys -- and bad girls! Because Warner Bros has released a new action-packed "Suicide Squad" trailer, which premiered during Sunday's airing of the MTV Movie Awards.

The hotly-anticipated action film, which further expands the DC Comics cinematic universe, is based on a comic book supervillain team, made up of such fan-favorites as sharp-shooting assassin Deadshot (played by superstar Will Smith) and Joker's mentally unhinged accomplice/mistress and former Arkham Asylum psychiatrist Harley Quinn (Wolf of Wall Street's Margot Robbie).

As the story goes, the team is the product of a top-secret government program that transforms imprisoned death-row super villains into expendable mercenaries for suicide missions -- hence the title.

The squad also includes Australian executioner Captain Boomerang (Terminator Genisys' Jai Courtney), the reptilian-skinned brute Killer Croc (Concussion's Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje), the LA gang member turned fire-starter EL Diablo (Hostel's Jay Hernandez), rope specialist/criminal Slipknot (Cowboys & Aliens' Adam Beach) and Japanese blade assassin Katana (newcomer Karen Fukuhara).

Model/actress Cara Delevingne (Paper Towns) also appears in the film as the evil sorceress, Enchantress, while Oscar-winner Jared Leto takes on the coveted role of the Joker.

Joel Kinnaman (The Killing, House of Cards) plays Rick Flag, a military officer who oversees the operations of the Suicide Squad program, which is run by national security agent Amanda Waller (played by "How to Get Away with Murder" star Viola Davis).

Written and directed by David Ayer (Fury, End of Watch) and co-starring Scott Eastwood, Ike Barinholtz, Common, David Harbour, and Jim Parrack (with a cameo by Ben Affleck as Batman), "Suicide Squad" is hitting theaters August 5th.

synopsis:
It feels good to be bad... Assemble a team of the world's most dangerous, incarcerated Super Villains, provide them with the most powerful arsenal at the government's disposal, and send them off on a mission to defeat an enigmatic, insuperable entity. U.S. intelligence officer Amanda Waller has determined only a secretly convened group of disparate, despicable individuals with next to nothing to lose will do. However, once they realize they weren’t picked to succeed but chosen for their patent culpability when they inevitably fail, will the Suicide Squad resolve to die trying, or decide it’s every man for himself?
