MTV has the first look at behind-the-scenes footage from Luc Besson's forthcoming epic space saga "Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" starring Dane DeHaan, Cara Delevingne and Rihanna.
Based on the 60's French sci-fi comic book series "Valerian and Laureline," which is said to have inspired the look and designs of such sci-fi classics as "Star Wars," and "Avatar," the film follows the adventures of two intergalactic agents who partner up to serve and protect the intergalactic city of Alpha and its seventeen million inhabitants.
Dane DeHaan stars as Valerian, an Earth-born agent who joined the Galaxity agency as a temporal agent in the year 2713, while his partner Laureline (Delevingne), started off as a peasant girl in 11th century France before joining the agency.
The film, currently in production, also co-stars Ethan Hawke, Rihanna, John Goodman, and Clive Owen as Valerian and Laureline's Commander who sends them into impossible missions throughout the four corners of the universe.
"Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets" is currently scheduled to open worldwide on July 21, 2017.

Under directive from their Commander (Clive Owen), Valerian and Laureline embark on a mission to the breathtaking intergalactic city of Alpha, an ever-expanding metropolis comprised of thousands of different species from all four corners of the universe. Alpha’s seventeen million inhabitants have converged over time- uniting their talents, technology and resources for the betterment of all. Unfortunately, not everyone on Alpha shares in these same objectives; in fact, unseen forces are at work, placing our race in great danger.
