Rogue One: A Star Wars Story — Official Teaser Trailer

added: Thu, Apr 7th '16

A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away … before Luke Skywalker, Princess Leia, and Han Solo became known as the rebel heroes who blew up the Death Star. There was another heroic story. A story about how "Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans" to the Death Star during a historic battle. Now that story is coming to the big screen in December. But today, we're getting our first look at footage from the very first "Star Wars" spin-off prequel.

Feast your fanboy eyes on the just-released teaser trailer for the much-anticipated "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story," directed by "Godzilla" helmer Gareth Edwards. The film takes place before the events of "Star Wars: A New Hope." And it will be exploring the story of the rebel's "first victory against the evil Galactic Empire" from the unique perspective of a ragtag group of ground resistance fighters, who took on the daring mission that, essentially, started it all.

The film's cast features a refreshingly diverse group of international actors that include English actress Felicity Jones (The Theory of Everything), Mexican actor Diego Luna (Elysium), Australian actor Ben Mendelsohn (Netflix's Bloodline), Hong Kong action star Donnie Yen (Ip Man), Chinese film actor/director Jiang Wen (Let the Bullets Fly) and British-Pakistani actor/rapper Riz Ahmed (Four Lions). Meanwhile, Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen (NBC's Hannibal) and a motion-captured Alan Tudyk (Firefly) round out the supporting cast.

Based on a story idea by Oscar-winning visual effects supervisor and ILM's chief creative officer John Knoll, "Rogue One," which will be the first in a series of standalone "Star Wars" movies (for instance, a Han Solo origin film is currently in the works for 2018), will be released in theaters on December 16th.

"Rogue One" tells the story of resistance fighters who have united to steal plans to the dreaded Death Star.
