It took 28 years, but comic book writer Alan Moore and artist Brian Bolland's groundbreaking 1988 comic book "Batman: The Killing Joke," featuring the shocking origins of the Joker, has finally been made into a movie. And better yet, it's animated! And it's done by the same creative team that brought you the classic '90s cartoon "Batman: The Animated Series."
Check out the first preview for WB's upcoming animated movie version of Moore and Bolland's landmark graphic novel, which hails from Emmy-winning producer-animator Bruce Timm, who is reuniting with Kevin Conroy as the voice of Batman/Bruce Wayne and Star Wars' Mark Hamill as the voice of the Joker.
Helmed by animation director Sam Liu (Justice League: Gods and Monsters, Beware the Batman), the movie also features the voices of veteran character actor Ray Wise as Commissioner Gordon and voice actress Tara Strong as Barbara Gordon/Batgirl.
Closely following Moore's original and often explicit narrative, "Batman: The Killing Joke" is a Joker-centric tale that explores, through flashbacks, the supervillain's early roots as a failed comedian and family man, who after "one bad day" is driven insane. The character Barbara Gordon (aka Batgirl) plays an essential part of the present-day storyline, which has been widened a bit for the movie.
"Batman: The Killing Joke" will be released on home video in the summer. An official release date has yet to be announced.
