Mel Gibson will be making a comeback this year as he plays a tatted-up outlaw biker in the gritty action thriller "Blood Father." And the film has just received its first international trailer, which seems to prove that there's no one in the industry who is madder than the original Mad Max.

Besides popping up in 2014's "The Expendables 3" and 2013's "Machete Kills," Gibson hasn't appeared in a leading role since 2012's "Get the Gringo." In "Blood Father," however, Gibson is back at center stage, playing "John Link," a reformed ex-con who is trying to stay on the straight and narrow as a small-time tattoo artist.

John spends his time working out of a run-down RV trailer parked in the middle of the California desert. But when John receives a phone call from his long-missing teenage daughter (played by "Jessica Jones" star Erin Moriarty) who informs him that she has gotten herself embroiled in a life-threatening situation with dangerous drug dealers, he frankly does what any normal father would do. He drops his tattoo gun and picks up a real one, knowing full well that he may end up back in prison.

Based on the crime novel of the same name by author/screenwriter Peter Craig, the film is directed by French action helmer Jean-Francois Richet, whose credits include the two-part French gangster thriller "Mesrine" and the 2005 action remake "Assault on Precinct 13."

Co-starring Diego Luna, Michael Parks, Richard Cabral, and William H. Macy, "Blood Father" doesn't have a U.S. release date, yet, but is scheduled to open internationally in the summer.
