If you missed "The Witch" in theaters in February, well, it seems you'll have another chance to catch the breakout Kubrickian thriller on the big screen.
For the weekend only, indie film distributor A24 is re-releasing the 17th-century-set spookfest starting this Friday, April 1. And to promote the film's nationwide return, the studio has dropped a brand-new trailer, providing some pretty disturbing imagery concerning blood, possessions, a sinister raven, a creepy pair of twins, and one eerie-looking goat named "Black F--king Phillip."
Written and directed by first-time feature filmmaker Robert Eggers and starring newcomer Anya Taylor-Joy and former "Game of Thrones" actors Ralph Ineson and Kate Dickie, the Sundance-winning film centers on a Puritan family who, after moving to the outskirts of New England, is gradually driven to madness by evil forces.
Meanwhile, "The Witch" is currently slated to be released on Blu-Ray and DVD on May 17th.
synopsis:
New England, 1630: William and Katherine lead a devout Christian life, homesteading on the edge of an impassible wilderness, with five children. When their newborn son mysteriously vanishes and their crops fail, the family begins to turn on one another. 'The Witch' is a chilling portrait of a family unraveling within their own fears and anxieties, leaving them prey for an inescapable evil.
