It's open season on people who have super powers, and the world may have just plunged into utter chaos.

Check out a new trailer for the forthcoming second season of Playstation's original edgy superhero/detective series "Powers," which is based on the popular comic book by artist Michael Avon Oeming and writer Brian Michael Bendis (who also created the Marvel comic book series "Jessica Jones").

Set in a world where superheroes and supervillains are a part of the social fabric, the series centers on Christian Walker (played by District 9's Sharlto Copley), a hard-nosed detective who was once a celebrated superhero but has since lost his powers. Now working as an ordinary police officer, Walker uses his superhero connections and insider knowledge to hunt down some of the most dangerous "Powers" in the world. But since the shocking death of one of the world's greatest superheroes, society may be on the verge of a total meltdown.

The cast of the new 10-episode season includes "The Hateful Eight" star Michael Madsen as a washed-up superhero who's forced out of retirement, Battlestar Galactica's Tricia Helfer as a shady FBI agent, Veronica Mars' Enrico Colantoni as the city's fed-up mayor, and Wil Wheaton as an aggressive PR man. Meanwhile returning cast members include Susan Heyward, Logan Browning, Adam Godley and Olesya Rulin as a superhero groupie who now becomes a superhero superstar.

"Powers: Season 2" will be premiering Tuesday, May 31 exclusively on the Playstation Network.

synopsis:
Powers, an edgy dramatic series, follows the lives of two homicide detectives, Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim, who are assigned to investigate cases involving people with superhuman abilities, referred to as "Powers." Set amidst today's paparazzi culture, Powers asks the questions, "what if the world was full of superheroes who aren't actually heroic at all? What if all that power was just one more excuse for mischief, mayhem, murder, and endorsement deals?"
