Thanks to the good people at Amazon, American viewers will be able to see the latest incarnation of the British animated action series "Thunderbirds Are Go," which will be making its U.S. debut next month, exclusively on Amazon Prime Video.

A modern reboot of the 1960s children's science-fiction series, about a Johnny Quest-like squad of four brothers who have dedicated themselves to saving the world whenever disaster strikes, hails from executive producer (and self-described "Thunderbirds" superfan) Richard Taylor, who is perhaps better known as the Oscar-winning FX guru behind "The Lord of the Rings" films and the founder of the Weta Workshop.

Created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson, the original '60s series was done with marionette figures in a style they described as "Supermarionation," and was a major influence on Trey Parker and Matt Stone's 2004 puppet comedy "Team America: World Police." The updated version, sadly, has abandoned the use of marionettes and instead incorporates conventional computer animation methods with live-action miniature sets.

Recently acquiring the U.S. rights to the British series (of which the first season has already aired last year in the U.K.), Amazon plans to divide up the show's two 26-episode seasons into four seasons (each containing 13 episodes) for U.S. viewers.

The series, which features original cast member David Graham as the voice of the team's butler Aloysius Parker and Gone Girl's Rosamund Pike as the voice of secret agent Lady Penelope, will be available for streaming on April 22. Watch the U.S. trailer, above.
