HBO has released the first trailer for "All the Way," the upcoming LBJ biopic that stars Emmy-winner and recent Oscar nominee Bryan Cranston as President Lyndon B. Johnson, Oscar-winner Melissa Leo as First Lady "Lady Bird" Johnson, and Anthony Mackie as Martin Luther King, Jr.

Based on Robert Schenkkan's stage play of the same name, which also starred Cranston for which he won a Tony Award, "All the Way" recounts the events after the 1963 assassination of John F. Kennedy during which a then-Vice President Johnson assumed the presidency. LBJ then went on to win reelection the following year in 1964. The film will also focus on the President's relationship with MLK at a critical turning point in the civil rights movement.

Executive produced by Steven Spielberg, the cable movie is directed by Jay Roach, who previously worked with Cranston on "Trumbo."

Co-starring Frank Langella, Bradley Whitford, and Stephen Root, "All the Way" is set to premiere Saturday, May 21, on HBO.

synopsis:
All The Way offers a riveting behind-the scenes look at President Lyndon B. Johnson’s tumultuous first year in office after the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Staking his presidency on what would be an historic unprecedented Civil Rights Act, Johnson finds himself caught between the moral imperative of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and the expectations of the southern Democratic Party leaders who brought Johnson to power. As King battles to press Johnson while controlling more radical elements of the Civil Rights Movement, Johnson navigates the bill through Congress, winning a landslide victory against Barry Goldwater, but causing the South to defect from the Democratic Party.
