What do authors Ernest Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald, and Thomas Wolfe have in common? Yes, they are all regarded as literary geniuses and have often been referred to as some of the greatest American novelists of the early 20th Century. But what you may not know is that these legendary writers also shared the same book editor: Maxwell Perkins, who, at times, also acted as their worst critic, their best advocate, and their most trusted career advisor.

In the upcoming 1930s-set drama "Genius," based on Pulitzer Prize-winning biographer A. Scott Berg's 1978 book "Max Perkins: Editor of Genius," Colin Firth stars as the famed New York book editor with Jude Law as hard-drinking, hard-living Southern novelist Thomas Wolfe.

Set during the time Perkins had just discovered a then-unknown Wolfe, much of the film revolves around their volatile working relationship. The film also chronicles the events that led up to the publication of Wolfe's breakout debut novel "Look Homeward, Angel," and the years that followed, during which Perkins and Wolfe butted heads over the wayward author's sophomore best-seller, which was eventually trimmed down to 912 pages.

Marking the feature film debut of theater director Michael Grandage and adapted by acclaimed screenwriter John Logan (The Aviator, Skyfall), "Genius" also stars Nicole Kidman as Wolfe's costume designer girlfriend, Aline Bernstein, and Laura Linney as Perkins' long-suffering wife, Louise Saunders. Meanwhile, Guy Pearce and Dominic West co-star as Fitzgerald and Hemingway, respectively.

"Genius" arrives in theaters June 10th. Watch the film's trailer, above.
