Sure, it may be the year of superhero-versus-superhero movies. But director Bryan Singer wants to remind comic book movie fans that nothing beats the excitement of seeing an old-fashioned good vs. evil showdown among super-powered mutants.

Feast your eyes on a brand-new trailer for "X-Men: Apocalypse," the latest entry in the mutant-versus-mutant franchise, which once again sees Professor Charles Xavier (James McAvoy) squaring off against his old frenemy, Magneto (Michael Fassbender), over the future of mankind. This time, however, Magneto is not leading the charge, but rather following the orders of Apocalypse (played by "Star Wars" actor Oscar Isaac), an ancient and powerful mutant supervillain who plans to "cleanse the Earth for the strongest" and rid the world of non-mutants.

Jennifer Lawrence returns as the shape-shifting antihero Raven (aka Mystique), who now sides with Professor X and becomes the de facto leader of a new young, inexperienced X-Men team, composed of teenage versions of Jean Grey ("Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner), Cyclops (Mud's Tye Sheridan), and Nightcrawler (Planet of the Apes' Kodi Smit-McPhee).

The all-star cast also includes Nicholas Hoult (as Beast), Rose Byrne (as Moira MacTaggert), Evan Peters (as Quicksilver), Lucas Till (as Havok) while Straight Outta Compton's Alexandra Shipp plays a young Storm and British up-and-comer Ben Hardy is a young Angel. The film will also feature the first screen appearance of fan-favorite mutant assassin character Psylocke, played by "The Newsroom" actress Olivia Munn.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" arrives in theaters on May 27th.

synopsis:
Since the dawn of civilization, he was worshipped as a god. Apocalypse, the first and most powerful mutant from Marvel's X-Men universe, amassed the powers of many other mutants, becoming immortal and invincible. Upon awakening after thousands of years, he is disillusioned with the world as he finds it and recruits a team of powerful mutants, including a disheartened Magneto (Michael Fassbender), to cleanse mankind and create a new world order, over which he will reign. As the fate of the Earth hangs in the balance, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) with the help of Professor X (James McAvoy) must lead a team of young X-Men to stop their greatest nemesis and save mankind from complete destruction.
