Former "Boardwalk Empire" star Jack Huston knows what real horsepower feels like as he's seen playing a fallen prince turned galley slave turned vengeful chariot champion in the first action-packed trailer for the forthcoming epic remake of "Ben-Hur."

Based on Lew Wallace's 1880 biblical novel, "Ben-Hur: A Tale of the Christ," which had been turned into several film, TV and stage productions -- and was, most famously, the source material for director William Wyler's 1959 Oscar-winning classic, this newest interpretation sees Huston taking on the title role, which, of course, was once played by screen legend Charlton Heston.

English actor Toby Kebbell (Fantastic Four, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes) plays Judah Ben-Hur's childhood friend/adopted brother, Messala. He's a corrupted Roman nobleman who accuses Judah of treason. The false accusations force Judah into years of exiled slavery. But when he meets a wise Arabian sheik (played by Morgan Freeman), who is willing to train him in the art of chariot races ("a blood sport" with no laws), Judah plots his revenge against Messala. And you can bet the competition is fierce.

Co-starring Nazanin Boniadi (Homeland), Ayelet Zurer (Daredevil), James Cosmo (Braveheart), Pilou Asbaek (Game of Thrones) as Pontius Pilate and Rodrigo Santoro (300) as Jesus, the film is directed by Russian-born action helmer Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted, Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter).

Produced by reality-show mogul Mark Burnett, "Ben-Hur" is set to hit theaters August 12th.
