Sure, the film bears the title, "Captain America: Civil War," but this is very much about what the future might hold for the "Avengers" team. A future that looks anything but rosy, judging by a new action-packed trailer, released today. It's safe to assume that things may get far worse before they get better.

Directed by "The Winter Soldier" helmers Anthony and Joe Russo, "Civil War" is about the events that lead up to a nasty confrontation between Captain America (Chris Evans) and Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr.), which is ignited by the enactment of a new government law that turns Cap's childhood friend, the formerly brainwashed Hydra assassin Bucky Barnes (Sebastian Stan), into a wanted fugitive.

Cap's controversial decision to protect and defend Bucky has created a rift within the Avengers organization, pitting one side against the other ... teammate against teammate, friend against friend, and Rogers against Stark.

In addition to Evans, Downey Jr., and Stan, the massive cast also includes Scarlett Johansson, Don Cheadle, Anthony Mackie, Elizabeth Olsen, Jeremy Renner, Paul Bettany, Paul Rudd, Martin Freeman, Emily VanCamp, Frank Grillo, and William Hurt. The film will also feature the very first screen appearance of African-born superhero The Black Panther, played by "Get on Up" star Chadwick Boseman, and the much-anticipated Marvel appearance of Spider-Man (played by 19-year-old British actor Tom Holland)

"Captain America: Civil War" heads into theaters May 6th.

synopsis:
"Captain America: Civil War" picks up where "Avengers: Age of Ultron" left off, as Steve Rogers leads the new team of Avengers in their continued efforts to safeguard humanity. After another international incident involving the Avengers results in collateral damage, political pressure mounts to install a system of accountability and a governing body to determine when to enlist the services of the team. The new status quo fractures the Avengers while they try to protect the world from a new and nefarious villain.
