Oscar-winner Susan Sarandon is a newly widowed mother who can't help but pry into her daughter's personal life in the new trailer for the upcoming comedy "The Meddler," also starring Rose Byrne and Oscar-winner J.K. Simmons.

Lorene Scafaria, the screenwriter of "Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist" and the filmmaker behind the 2012 comedy "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World," writes and directs this mother-daughter relationship romp, which is loosely based on her own relationship with her overly meddling mother.

The film casts Sarandon as a New Jersey woman who, after the passing of her husband, moves to Los Angeles to be closer to her screenwriter daughter, played by Byrne. Encouraged to start a new hobby, Sarandon's character instead focuses all her attention on her daughter, interfering in her daughter's affairs and shamelessly overstepping her boundaries. But things calm down a bit when Sarandon meets a new man -- a man with a Harley (Simmons).

Co-starring Cecily Strong, Casey Wilson, and Jerrod Carmichael, "The Meddler," which premiered to strong reviews at last year's TIFF, is set to open in NY and LA on April 22nd with other cities to follow.

synopsis:
With a new iPhone, an apartment near the Grove, and a comfortable bank account left to her by her beloved late husband, Marnie Minervini has happily relocated from New Jersey to Los Angeles to be near her daughter Lori, a successful (but still single) screenwriter, and smother her with motherly love. But when the dozens of texts, unexpected visits, and conversations dominated by unsolicited advice force Lori to draw strict personal boundaries, Marnie finds ways to channel her eternal optimism and forceful generosity to change the lives of others -- as well as her own -- and find a new purpose in life.
