Move over DiCaprio, because it's now Tom Hardy's turn to be an early 19th-century revenant.

The recent Oscar nominee plays a mysterious English traveler who, after being presumed dead, returns to 1813, London to claim his deceased father's trading and shipping empire in FX's new eight-part drama series "Taboo." And from what we can see in the debut trailer, Hardy's character, James Keziah Delaney, isn't exactly getting a warm and friendly homecoming. But then again, Delaney is a "very dangerous man to know."

Created and written by Steven Knight (Peaky Blinders, Eastern Promises) and based on an original story by Hardy and his father, Chips Hardy (who's serving as a consulting producer), the series also stars Oona Chaplin (Game of Thrones), Michael Kelly (Netflix's House of Cards), and Jonathan Pryce (Pirates of the Caribbean films).

A co-production between FX and BBC, "Taboo" is being executive produced by Ridley Scott, alongside Hardy's newly-minted production company "Hardy, Son & Baker." While, acclaimed TV helmer Kristoffer Nyholm (The Enfield Haunting, The Killing) is directing all eight episodes.

As of yet, an official air-date has not been announced.

synopsis:
Set in 1814, Taboo follows James Keziah Delaney, a man who has been to the ends of the earth and comes back irrevocably changed. Believed to be long dead, he returns home to London from Africa to inherit what is left of his father's shipping empire and rebuild a life for himself. But his father's legacy is a poisoned chalice, and with enemies lurking in every dark corner, James must navigate increasingly complex territories to avoid his own death sentence. Encircled by conspiracy, murder, and betrayal, a dark family mystery unfolds in a combustible tale of love and treachery.
