Oscar-winning documentarian Alex Gibney (Taxi to the Dark Side, Going Clear) is premiering his latest feature, "Zero Days," this week at the Berlin Film Festival.

The documentary takes an unflinching and thought-provoking look at the possibilities of a global cyber war by investigating the recent creation of Stuxnet, a powerful and dangerous computer worm, which is believed to have been developed by the U.S. government (with the support of Israel) to act as a new cyber weapon for attacking Iran's nuclear program.

The film's newly-released trailer (watch it above) states Stuxnet "is 20x more complex than any former virus" and has the capability to bring down power plants, power grids, and any other major industrial control systems. So, just imagine if the virus was used against the homeland -- it would be catastrophic, to say the least.

"Zero Days" was recently picked up by Magnolia Pictures and the cable network, Showtime. It will be released in theaters and VOD on July 8th.

synopsis:
In his new film, Oscar-winning documentary filmmaker Alex Gibney explores the phenomenon of Stuxnet, a self-replicating computer virus discovered in 2010 by international IT experts. Evidently commissioned by the US and Israeli governments, this malware was designed to specifically sabotage Iran's nuclear programme. However, the complex computer worm ended up not only infecting its intended target but also spreading uncontrollably. Although to this day officially denied, Stuxnet was created by two allied forces who were each pursuing their own agendas, and in doing so opened up the Pandora's box of cyber warfare ...
