English actress Imogen Poots (Need for Speed, Jimi: All Is by My Side) plays a young Texas gal returning home in the new trailer for the indie film "A Country Called Home," also starring Oscar-winning singer-songwriter Ryan Bingham (Crazy Heart), Mackenzie Davis (TV's Halt and Catch Fire), June Squibb (Nebraska), Mary McCormack (TV's In Plain Sight) and Shea Whigham (HBO's Boardwalk Empire).

Directed by first-time feature helmer Anna Axster from a script she co-wrote with Jim Beggarly (Free Samples, The Kitchen), the slice-of-life drama centers on a young woman named Ellie (Poots), who returns to her hometown in Texas when she learns her estranged, alcoholic father has fallen gravely ill.

Once there, Ellie discovers her father had passed away in the hospital and must now make funeral arrangements for him. During which, she strikes up a relationship with her father's girlfriend's son, a sympathetic cowpoke (played by Bingham, who also provides the film's original music). Ellie also meets a sweet-natured local singer-songwriter (played by Davis), who offers a certain level of frivolity during her time of need.

"A Country Called Home" opens in select theaters on February 26th and will be made available on VOD March 1st.

synopsis:
A COUNTRY CALLED HOME tells the story of Ellie (Imogen Poots), a young woman living in Los Angeles who learns that her estranged alcoholic father has died. Having had no contact with him since childhood, she's reluctant to make the effort to attend his funeral, but something draws her to the dusty corner of Texas where he spent the last years of his life. At first dismayed by the small town vibe, she’s soon intrigued by the people she meets, among them a distraught stepmother, her apprehensive son, a gutsy young musician, and a set of doting grandparents she’s never met. As she finds glimpses of the father she once knew, she also discovers a new attitude towards friendship, loyalty, and family.
