Meryl Streep has found herself in the spotlight again, as she stars in her next musical dramedy playing popular New York heiress and socialite "Florence Foster Jenkins," who after her first public performance was quickly dubbed the worst vocalist of all time. Check out the teaser trailer for the film, which also stars Hugh Grant as Jenkins proud husband and manager.
The film tells the true story of English stage star St Clair Bayfield (Grant) who encouraged his wife Florence Foster Jenkins (Streep), to dream big -- which she did, by believing that she was blessed with an extraordinary singing voice that deserves to be heard. But unfortunately, for everyone else her voice was actually atrocious. Nevertheless, Bayfield was still determined to support his songbird by arranging a special one-night-only performance at Carnegie Hall in 1944.
Directed by Stephen Frears (Philomena, The Queen, High Fidelity), the film also co-stars MI: Rogue Nation's Rebecca Ferguson and Big Bang Theory's Simon Helberg as Jenkins' pianist. "Florence Foster Jenkins" is set to open in UK Cinemas starting on May 6th, followed by a US theatrical release date scheduled for August 31st.
