HBO has released the first trailer for "Confirmation," starring Kerry Washington, of "Scandal" fame, as Anita Hill, the young attorney who, in 1991, faced media and congressional scrutiny when she accused federal judge Clarence Thomas of sexual harassment.

The allegations made national headlines because, at the time, Thomas was President George H.W. Bush's pick for the U.S. Supreme Court, and was going through a tough confirmation process that was closely examined by Democratic senators.

In addition to Washington, the cast also includes Wendell Pierce (The Wire) as Clarence Thomas, Greg Kinnear as Sen. Joe Biden, Treat Williams as Sen. Ted Kennedy, and Dylan Baker as Sen. Orrin Hatch.

Jennifer Hudson, Jeffrey Wright, Eric Stonestreet, Bill Irwin, Kimberly Elise, Grace Gummer, Erika Christensen also appear in the HBO film, which is written by Susannah Grant (Erin Brockovich) and directed by Rick Famuyiwa (Dope).

"Confirmation" is set to premiere on April 16th.
