Just four months before he passed away in November of 2014, 83-year-old comedian/filmmaker Mike Nichols sat down in New York's Golden Theater and gave an in-depth, candid interview in front of a live audience.

Hosted by fellow theater director Jack O'Brien and taped over two days, Nichols answered questions about his early comedy career as the male half of the popular 1960s comedy duo Nichols and May, which he performed with groundbreaking comedienne and acclaimed screenwriter Elaine May (The Birdcage, Heaven Can Wait, Primary Colors). Nichols also discussed how he transitioned himself from the world of sketch comedy to the world of film and theatre, where he ultimately became one of the most celebrated and influential directors in America cinema.

The interview footage of those two nights with Nichols forms the backbone of "Becoming Mike Nichols," an insightful portrait of the EGOT-winning filmmaker who will probably be most remembered for his 1967 Dustin Hoffman-starring classic "The Graduate."

Directed by Douglas McGrath (Infamous, Emma), "Becoming Mike Nichols" will premiere on Monday, February 22nd on HBO.
