Originally scheduled to open in theaters this month, the dark dating comedy "The Lobster," starring Colin Farrell and Rachel Weisz, went through a last-minute distribution and release date change. Now set up at A24, the same U.S. distributor behind "Room," "The Witch," and "Ex Machina," the satirical fantasy-like film, which made a huge splash at Cannes last year, winning a couple of jury prizes, has received a new U.S. release date. It's now set to open theatrically on May 13th.

Described as a dystopian love story and set in a near future where all the single people are sent to a mandatory dating resort, "The Lobster" sees Farrell as David, a newly divorced schmoe who is given only 45 days to fall in love or suffer the consequences: Be turned into an animal of his choosing. David -- as you might have guessed from the title -- has chosen to be a lobster in the event that he doesn't find a partner in the allotted time.

Luckily, David meets an incredible woman (played by Weisz) with whom he is immediately enamored. But the question is, are his feelings mutual? Or is David destined to wind up like his brother ... the dog?

Also starring John C. Reilly, Olivia Colman, Ben Whishaw, Jessica Barden, Ariane Labed, and Lea Seydoux, the film is the English-language debut of Yorgos Lanthimos, the cult Greek filmmaker who previously gave us the offbeat satirical films "Dogtooth" and "Alps."

synopsis:
A love story set in the near future where single people, according to the rules of The City, are arrested and transferred to "The Hotel." There they are obliged to find a matching mate in 45 days. If they fail, they are transformed into an animal of their choosing and released into "The Woods." A desperate Man escapes from "The Hotel" to "The Woods" where "The Loners" live and falls in love, although it is against their rules.
