Looks like it's gonna take more than just poisoning their system with a computer virus to save us from this mess. Yup, those nasty aliens from "Independence Day" have returned to invade Earth yet again, and they're aiming to finish what they started 20 years ago.
Check out the new Super Bowl trailer for "Independence Day: Resurgence," the long-awaited sequel to the 1996 sci-fi blockbuster from director Roland Emmerich and producer Dean Devlin.
Jeff Goldblum is back as computer expert-turned-hero David Levinson. A white-bearded Bill Pullman has also returned as former U.S. President Thomas J. Whitmore. They're joined by Liam Hemsworth who plays a fearless fighter pilot who has a thing for Whitmore's daughter, Patricia, who is also a fellow military pilot. She's played by "It Follows" actress Maika Monroe.
The cast also includes Joey King, Charlotte Gainsbourg, William Fichtner, Sela Ward, Jessie Usher and Angelababy. While Judd Hirsch, Vivica A. Fox, and Brent Spiner are reprising their roles from the original. Will Smith, unfortunately, is not coming back as his character, Captain Steven Hiller, has been written off. Welcome to Earth... uh, Hollywood.
"Independence Day: Resurgence" is scheduled to open this summer, June 24th.
